DESCRIPTION:Longfellow creek is the second largest Salmon bearing creek in Seattle (Thornton Creek being the largest).  Every year\, salmon return to the creek but few make it all the way to spawning due to degraded habitat which the salmon depend upon. SUMMARY:Restore Salmon Habitat at Herrings House Park  with EarthCorps
DESCRIPTION:Join EarthCorps and the Green Seattle Partnership as we work in this park located along the Duwamish River (Seattle’s only river!). In 1999\, Herring’s House was built around a constructed intertidal estuary to help young Chinook salmon.  This is an important habitat site in the lower Duwamish for juvenile salmon providing safe shelter and food before they enter the Puget Sound. \nThe park features a picnic area\, viewpoints of the Duwamish River\, and trails.\n                                                                                             VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION \nThe Basics\nEarthCorps supplies gloves\, tools\, water and snack bars. We will teach you everything you need to know about tool use\, safety\, forest health\, and the importance of the work you will be doing. DESCRIPTION:Enhance your gardens and landscapes while providing important native habitat for our wildlife.  Native plants are adapted to our climate and soil conditions making them easy to grow\, disease and pest resistant\, with minimal care.  KCD’s plant sale is one of the best native plant sales but order early as they sell out of many of the popular plants!! \nThe King Conservation District offers a variety of native trees and shrubs for gardens\, wildlife habitat\, windbreaks\, hedgerows\, reforestation and stream enhancement. The plants are bareroot stock which means they do not come in pots or burlap bags\, but are harvested from the field in winter when the plants are dormant and ready to be replanted.
